He was last paid June 30, 1862 where they were located at Columbus, Miss. He was recorded present August 30 when they were located at Satallio. However, he was not paid which would indicate to me that his presence was marked in error. On the October 30 muster roll, when they were located near Waterford, he was listed as absent in hospital, later corrected when they were informed that he had died October 20, no place stated.

He very well may have been hospitalized somewhere in the Columbus area, where he subsequently died. Lauderdale Springs would not be out of the question.

Company A

Stationed at Columbus, Mississippi, not dated.
Stationed at Camp Whitfield, one and one-half miles east of
Columbus, Mississippi, February 8-April 30, 1862.
March 22.— The company met at Marion Station on the Mobile
and Ohio Railroad. Waited two days but owing to the cars being
detailed at Corinth, we were unable to get transportation.
Meridian being the nearest military post the company was trans-
ported to that point, where it remained two weeks and was
ordered to Columbus, Mississippi. Had to remain in the ware-
house twenty-four hours before they could get transportation.
April 4.— Arrived at Columbus at 10 o'clock p.m. Was
encamped in Columbus one week, then moved to Camp
Whitfield, one and one-half miles east and are still here.
