William W. Mobley, enlisted as a Second Lieutenant in Company I, Mississippi Battalion of Infantry,* August 10, 1861 at Memphis, Tenn., promoted 1st Lieut. February 5, 1862, promoted Captain January 2o, 1863, severely wounded, gunshot wound, thigh, and captured July 20, 1864 at Peach Tree Creek, Atlanta, Ga., sent to General Hospital No. 2, Chattanooga, Tenn., exchanged ca September, 1864, being " . . . incapable of bearing arms, by reason of wounds received in battle . . . ", assigned to South Carolina Conscript service for 60 days, Chester District, November 30, 1864, this assignment in lieu of reporting to the Commandant of Mississippi due to interruption of travel in that direction, no further records

Note: His age is listed in the roster index as 38, no idea of date of entry

* This company subsequently became Company A, 1st Battalion Mississippi Sharp Shooters
