I would think Mississippi. He lived in Simpson County. By the time of war he would have been middle aged. All I know is a Confederate officer was on furlough at the man's plantation when Grierson's Raiders made it their headquarters for the night. One Union report listed his rank as major. After the war George W. Williams was referred to as Colonel... but they called all old plantation owners Colonel.

Now it could have been Lt. Pleasant A. Walker, Co. B. 16th Miss. Inf., but I am not positive yet.
