Pleasant, then a 2nd Lieutenant, was recorded on the Jan/Feb, 1863 muster roll as absent on furlough since 3 February, no place stated. On the subsequent Mar/Apr, 1863 muster with the Army of Northern Virginia, he was recorded present. This muster would nominally be held the last day of April. This would place his presence in Westville, Miss., April 26 in doubt.

He is however, recorded at home in Westville the next year, Sep/Oct, on a 60 day furlough/sick leave, recuperating from a gunshot wound.
