Hello Everyone,

I am attempting to find more about my relative's Civil War service. His name is Joseph Wesley Cowart, 1846-1910; service verified by the 1910 census, his second wife's approved pension application, and the Jones County, MS, 1907 list of surviving veterans. Pension info: enlisted Oct. 1864, Co. H, Reserve Corps, under Captain J P Harris, stationed at Enterprise, MS; this conflicts with the 1907 list, which states service in 7th Infantry, Co. C. There is a Fold3 file for a J W Cowart, 12th MS Cavalry, Co. D, with little biographical info. The NA could not find records for him, and a fellow I spoke with at the MDAH in Jackson said the pension info may be wrong and that Joseph Wesley may have served in both the 7th and the 12th! I know his service may never become clear, but is someone here able to give me further research assistance?
