What meager records for him indicate a Jefferson County resident and suggests he was a Conscript.

Elisha H. Norton, Private, Capt. S. D. Ramsey’s Company,4th Regiment Mississippi Cavalry,* joined for duty and enrolled September 8,1863 in Copiah Co., Miss. by Capt. S. D. Ramsey, recorded present at the June 30, 1864 muster,** among members of his company surrendered at Citronelle, Ala., paroled at Gainesville, Ala. May 12, resident of Jefferson County, Mss.

* This company was also known as Company E, 45h Regiment Misisissippi Cavalry. It was formerly Co. D. Hughes’ Battalion Mississippi Cavalry

** There are no further muster rolls found for Company E in the records

Note - Also in Company E were:

Joel H. Norton, also present June 30, 1864, transferred to Robert’s Batt. Cavalry May 1, 1864 and, John Norton, recorded absent without leave June 30, 1864
