Thank you Frank. The last time I made a count I was somewhere around the 10,000 number mark. Of course let me say this includes all Negros who served the Confederacy in some way, shape or form. It is just my opinion that these people deserve some recognition also, plus it is history.

I know there are more out there but I just haven't gotten around to finding them at this time. I am sure there are plenty of book referencdes that lists someone's service that I just haven't found, like Peter that Rex posted. How many I have no idea.

Every chance I get I like to take on those who will deny this service. Most are ion the education field, but yet they have no idea what they are talking about. I had one fellow tell me that a CSR pension record was no proof of service. He took his ball and went home after I explained that a CSR and a pension was two different things. I tried to explain to him that you cannot get one or the other without serving. Oh well.

Another fellow has tried to convince me that the "Slave Codes" prevented the slaves from carrying weapons. I say OK if that is the case tell me all about this person---

Jenny-- Negro Girl-- Received at the Myrtle Street Prison the 13th day of Feb. 1864 from Peter Coring, US officer. Sent forward from Prov. Mar. Genl on the first day of February 1864. By order of Col. Marsh.

Jenny "negro Girl"
Signed William Lonergan--Keeper
(Unfiled Papers and Slips Belonging in Confederate Compiled Service Records)

Was she armed or not? Was she a slave or free? See what I am getting at. So much is unknown that it is impossible to paint all the Negroe with one broad brush. guess I am done now. I'll get down off my soapbox, thanks for lending an ear.
