George,

If you look at https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/14736779/robert-vance#view-photo=114373011 you will find two “negro servants”, Robert Vance and James William, listed on a bronze plaque at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis. These men were from Mississippi, but no other information is provided. Years ago, I made a visit to Crown Hill Cemetery and found that the cemetery has a series of bronze plaques listing the known Confederate dead from the Camp Morton Prison Camp. The original cemetery for those men was taken over for other purposes and the dead were reinterned in a mass grave at Crown Hill. Later, there was a project to recreate the names of the dead, as best could be determined, and a memorial consisting of the name plaques was created. At the time of my visit, I noticed that some of the men listed were designated as “negro servants” and snapped a photo of this particular plaque.

I did a brief search, but I have not found a convenient listing of the names and designations of the men listed on the other plaques. They are included in “find a grave” but I do not know how to determine which are servants. The names on the plaques are grouped by state, and that is the only way I can determine the place of origin since the servants are simply listed as “CSA” rather than by an individual unit.

If I find a complete list of names from the plaques or an easy way to search in find a grave, I will let you know.
