Seaborn B. Herring, 28, 2nd Sergeant, Capt. Jas. S. Prestidge’s Company , Mississippi Vols.* enlisted April 1/3,1861 at Monticello. Miss., accepted June 10 for 3 years, mustered into service July 27 at Iuka, left at Edward’s Depot sick, May 5, 1863, absent without leave from July 16, 1863, reduced to ranks, recorded at the Jul/Aug, 1863 muster as deserted from hospital, returned November 27, 1863, absent without leave 87 days, recommended by a Medical Board to duty in the Ordnance Dept. by Gen. Order No. ___, dated March 5, 1864, detailed March 18 & reported same day to Regt. Ordnance Officer, sent to Hospital May 1, 1864, left his company without authority at Shubuta, Miss. February 1, 1865, absent at February 28, 1865 muster, no further Company A muster rolls in the records

* This company was successively designated as Captain Prestidge’s Company, Mississippi Volunteers, and as Company A, 22nd Regiment Mississippi Infantry
