Here is something else that is interesting about the man buried in Lawrence County, Alabama. The Lawrence County Archives shows that this man's father was David Borden. The 1850 census shows the family of David Borden, a clergyman, living in Lawrence County. Among members of his family are two boys, Martin, aged 10 and Francis, aged 8. I cannot find any record of service for this Martin, but his brother can be found in the 1st Alabama Cavalry, US Volunteers. This could be an indication (unproven) that the family as a whole was Unionist in sentiment.
