Major Thomas G. Blewett, a resident of Columbus, Mississippi, built the bridge in 1837.
According to the following thread, Camp Blewett was located near Blewett's Bridge on Luxapalila Creek, and was a place for sick and wounded soldiers during the summer of 1862.
