On February 17, 1864, The Confederate submarine Hunley attacked and sank the USS Housatonic, which had been on Union blockade-duty in Charleston's outer harbor. Soon afterwards, the Hunley sank, killing all eight of her third crew. They returned from eternal patrol as their remains were laid to rest in April 2004

I have seen the hatches close me in the submarine
I have heard the Klaxton sound
I have heard the announcement "dive dive "
I have gone under the dark cold waters
I have prayed to God to deliver me back to my family
This experience forges a bond not only to those that you have trusted your life to, but all those who went before you and those who go after you
Eddy Cresap EM1 (SS)

On February 17 please remember the brave men of the Hunley.
They knew the danger but volunteered anyway to drive a barbarian invader from their home.
