Tim,

I am in the process of gathering all the statistics from North Carolina Troops 1861-1865, A Roster. In the meantime Busey and Martin calculates 41 Officers and 599 men present at the start of the fight on 1 July, with total losses of 55 killed, 143 wounded, and only 22 missing. This latter mumber is far off. In fact, my estimates show about 200 captured--the great majority of these were taken from the right wing of the regiment which got caught in the famous railroad cut by the 6th Wisconsin (and others), along with the rest of the brigade on the morning of July 1. I think about 250 men and a few officers were left to take part in the great charge against the Union center on July 3, and the regiment came out of this battle with just under 200 total. Companies A and I together show 9 casualties at Falling Waters, so extrapolating the regiment lost about 45 more before they crossed back into Virginia, leaving an end strength of around 150, out of the 640 who first entered the fight two weeks earlier. The loss is thus 76.6% Tom
