Hillsboro Military Academy

Among the military schools in North Carolina was Hillsboro Military Academy, located in Hillsboro, but I know nothing of it except of tis existence. However, it appears to have been a place where a number of young South Carolinians attended. Among the stduents there who were four who served in Company A of the Hampton Legion Infantry (later Mounted Infantry) were (1) Philip Albert Emanuel, a student from 1861 to early 1864, a resident of Marlboro District, S.C.; (2) Frank Eugene Taylor, of Charleston, a student at the Academy when he left to enlist in the Legion in August 1863; (3) Benjamin Hawkins Tyson, of Pitt County, N.C., who left in 1862 to join a S.C. unit, and later transferred to the Legion; and (4) James Hasell Ancrum, Jr., of Charleston, who is said to have been a graduate of the Academy. He must have graduated in 1861, because he enlisted in the Legion in June 1861, at the age of 17. I suspect that there were more who attended or graduated but I have not been able to identify them.

Can anyone provide information on the school and its staff?
