There was a recent article in the North Carolina Historical Review on the school. The article, written by Stephen A Ross, is entitled "To prepare our sons for all the duties that may lie before them : the Hillsborough Military Academy and military education in antebellum North Carolina." It appeared in Vol. 79, Is. 1, January 2002.
