The following Excerpts from the Journal of Captain Jedediah Hotchkiss, Topographical Engineer, Second Corps, ANV, was published in the Supplement to the Official Records, vol. 27, serial nos. 43-44, p. 379: "June, 28, Sunday -- We spent the day at the barracks ... Early left his camp at Berlin and marched to York by noon and encamped there. We raised the Confederate flag in the p.m. on the flag-staff at the Barracks, and remarks were made by Generals Rodes, Trimble, Daniel, Ewell, etc. Quite an [animated] scene."
