CW History Early Christians and Stokes of N.C

Dear Deborah:

Thank you for sending any writing about Lucinda Christian Mitchell, my great, great grandmother, wife of Warren Anderson Mitchell, C.S.A.

Can you clarify something for me?

On page 473-475 of the "History of Jones County, Georgia, 1807-1907," by Carolyn White Williams, with index by Margaret Heard Stephens, Memorial Edition, reprinted 2003, Mr. S.H. Griswold has written "Hardy Christian and Descendants," have you seen this? About the early Hardy Christian, he says that he had a large family, some of whom came to Jones County (from Haywood, Chatham County, North Carolina) and settled. "I remember Lewis, Henry and Ruch."

In the 1850 census for Jones County, Georgia, it lists the following information (page 1046 of the "History of Jones County, Georgia, 1807-1907"):

Order of Visitation: 458
Henry Christian, Age 36, Male, Farmer Real Estate Value: 400, Place of Birth: N.C.
Nancy Christian, Age 39, Female, Place of Birth: N.C.
Catherine Christian, Age 17, Female, Place of Birth: N.C.
Ruthy A. Christian, Age 16, Female, Place of Birth: Ga.
Lucinda Christian, Age 13, Female, Place of Birth: Ga.
Susan Christian, Age 9, Female, Place of Birth: Ga.
William Christian, Age 7, Male, Place of Birth: Ga.
Henry Christian, Age 5, Male, Place of Birth: Ga.
Mary J. Christian, Age 3, Female, Place of Birth, Ga.
Robert Christian, Age 8/12, Male, Place of Birth, Ga.

In our handwritten family records, circa 1926, it lists Lucinda's parents names as Henry Christian and Nancy Womack Christian.

Now, point of clarification: On page 474 of the "History of Jones County, Georgia, 1807-1907" it says that Ruch Christian was a gallant soldier. . . His sons were Hardy, Hill, Robert and Tom. Mrs. Mitchell (mother of Mrs. Tom Duffy), Mrs. Sam Kingman, and Mrs. Mike Byrd were his daughters. Is this a misprint? It is extremely important to know who Henry is and who "his" is.

How to say it to the Christians? What does Ruch mean to the Christians, please?

Please tell me the url/website where I can see a photo of Hardy Christian.

In Volume II, "Generations of History," published by Jones County News, on page 20, there is a photograph of my great, great grandmother, Lucinda Christian Mitchell. Also pictured are my great grandparents, Mr. Thomas William Duffy, Jr. and Mrs. Ida Warren Mitchell Duffy. My great grandfather was a legislator from Jones County during the changing mid-1900s. Tom and Ida had 10 children. Also included is a photo of the Mitchell-Duffy home; and two of their children Emmett Duffy and Robert Duffy. Emmett with his coal black hair. Emmett's West Point photo is also included. Emmett went to the Western Front during WWI where he was injured twice in a mustard gas attack; once from the mustard gas, and also when his injured horse collapsed on him. The Mitchell-Duffy family plot is in Jones County in Gray, Georgia (earlier called James, Georgia).

Please say Hardy's website.

Do you need any Christian information? I will share what I have. Do you know anything about Lucy Womack? What are the Stokes up to? Being such early residents of North Carolina--any American Revolutionary War veterans, or veterans of the War of 1812? Well, I like to look at RevList@yahoogroups.com for information about Henry Mitchell (RS), my great, great, great, great, great grandfather

Have a great life, that's what the Christians' family saying is.

I am so glad to see the Christians Hardy.

Merry Thanksgiving,
Terri Anne Hastings
