I'd say our g,g,grandpaws both took a long " stroll " back to North Carolina !!! Some time back I read an account of an old Reb from my Native Tennessee in Confederate Veteran Magazine from the early 1900's. He said after he " took the oath," They issued him 3 days rations " pointed me south and told me to GITT like you'd do an old stray dog !!! " He also said the reason so many waited till June before " taking the oath " was they thought the Federals were lying about the Confedreare armies surrendering in Virginia and North Carolina.
