Combined Service Record states that he was a Volunteer from Henderson County, age 19, Farmer, Height 5'11". Listed as a Private in Company G. It indicates that he is on the Roll of Honor -- a distinction that was no given to just anyone; it was the only type of 'award' ever given to Confederates. He spent a good amount of time in field hospitals.

There is no indication that he served in Virginia, nor is there a Parole card in his file.

If I had to guess what happened, I'ld say he was probably medically retired.
