Private George W. Haire, age 25, Anson County, enlisted September 15/October 3, 1861, Company B, 31st North Carolina Volunteers, taken prisoner of war on February 8, 1862, released on parole at Elizabeth City, N. C., February 21, 1862, transferred to Company H, 43rd North Carolina March 23, 1863

George W. Haire, enlisted as a Private the 31st North Carolina Infantry (State Troops), October 3, 1861 at Wadesboro, Anson County, N. C., transferred to Company H, 43rd North Carolina Infantry April 4, 1863, age 26, captured May 16, 1864 near Drury's Bluff, Virginia, forwarded to Point Lookout, Maryland prison camp, thence to Elmira, N. Y. August 17, later exchanged, admitted Winder Hospital, Richmond, Virginia March 8, 1865, died March 19,1865 at Jackson Hospital, Richmond, Bronchitis (Federal documents record him as Hare, later Richmond hospital records as Hair)

He is buried in the Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond, Virginia
