He Resigned on 8/20/1863
("recommended resignation be accepted on account of
applicant being boyish & unqualified commander")

An endorsement reads:

"The applicant in this case being quite young, being about twenty years of age and very boyish, and possessing few of the qualities of a commanding officer, except courage. I respectfully recommend the acceptance of his resignation."
