Re: 35 NC Infantry
In Response To: 35 NC Infantry ()

I am wanting to find out as much as I can about the 35 NC Infantry Regiment. My great-great-grandfather, Amzi Alexander Hawn, and his brother, Calvin L. Hawn, served in Company K, enlisting at Hickory Tavern, NC, on 15 October 1861. Calvin survived the war but Amzi died in battle at Petersburg on 17 June 1964.

I have in my possession a Roster of Company K that was compiled and published by Amidas C. Link in memory of his brother, Lt Julius Edward Link, who was killed at Malvern Hill, Va, on 1 July1862. [There is no date on the list as to when it was published. The copy of this roster was given to me by my Maternal Grandmother, but I do not know when or how she acquired it.]

I also have in my possession some of the correspondence between Amzi Hawn and his wife, Mary Magdalene Yoder Hawn. There is also one letter from Calvin to Mary Magdalene describing how Amzi died (Calvin was near by and saw his brother fall in battle). There is little information about locations and battles in the letters, so I know very little about which battles Amzi's unit participated in. I would very much like to have a copy of any history of the 35 Regt, especially of Compahy K.
