This campaign and battle have been captured in a new documentary which took 5 years to produce. It was a labor of love for hundreds of re-enactors who participated. Here is a synopsis of the documentary:

In the summer of 1864 Union General David Hunter and his Army of West Virginia are ordered to capture Lynchburg, Virginia. If Hunter can seize this important Southern city, it might cripple the Confederacy and end the war. Defended only by old men and young boys, Lynchburg must prepare for the worst. Hunter makes his way through Staunton, Lexington, Buchanan, and Bedford, destroying and burning homes, shops, and warehouses as he goes. At the edge of the Lynchburg city limits the Union army is repulsed in dramatic fashion after the last minute arrival of Confederate forces under General Jubal Early.

Filmed at original locations in and around Lynchburg, this dramatic documentary recounts Hunter's Raid through the voices of the soldiers and civilians who where there. It features recreated historical scenes, animated maps, still images, and period music.
The documentary is 55 minutes and features a surround-sound audio track, a stereo audio track, and a Director’s Commentary. Bonus features include two theatrical trailers, a photo gallery, a behind-the-scenes video and more.

All proceeds support Historic Sandusky, a non-profit historic house that was used as David Hunter's Headquarters during his campaign.
