Samuel R. Sadler, Private, Company B (Hyde County Rifles), 7th Regiment North Carolina Infantry (Vols.)*, 18 year old School Teacher, born in Hyde County, N. C., 5' 10", enrolled for active service May 23, 1861 at Swan Quarter, N. C., mustered into service July 5, 1861 at Portsmouth, N. C. by Capt. H. A. Gilliam for one year, absent sick with leave August 16 to September 6, 1861, mustered out March 26, 1862 at Suffolk, Virginia,

* The designation of this regiment was changed from the 7th Regiment North Carolina Infantry (Volunteers) to the 17th Regiment North Carolina Infantry (State Troops) [1st Organization] November 14, 1861.

It was disbanded and mustered out of service March 10, 1862, many of the men re-enlisting for the war in the 17th Regiment North Carolina Infantry (2nd Organization)

Samuel R. Sadler, 18 year old Teacher, born in Hyde County, N. Carolina, 5' 10", enrolled for active service May 14, 1862 in Hyde County, mustered into service May 30, 1862 at Camp Mangum by Lt. Col. J. C. Lamb for 3 years, Company B (Stonewall Rifles), 17th Regiment North Carolina Infantry (State Troops) [2nd Organization], promoted Orderly (1st) Sergeant June/May 17, 1862, last recorded present on the Jan. & Feb., 1864 muster roll, transferred to B. G. J. H. Morgan's Command April 16, 1864, paid April 25, 1864 for the period December 31, 1863 to April 25, 1864, no further records
