I've several "tar-heels " among my rebel kinfolk so I thought I'd try to help ya out !!!! Only 4 cards in his CMSR at fold3. One has him in a Captain J.P. Davis company. Other one has him in a Company led by a Captain Roundtree. Both say he was paid for service that " commenced Jan.21, 1862 and ended Feb.19, 1862. 2nd month of service Feb.19, - March 17, 1862. Must have been a " home -guard " unit only called out when needed. I bet he was either very young or very old. " Clark's Special Battalion of NC. Militia " is how the unit was known. The other 2 cards is just his name on the muster roll.
