Hugh[ey] A. Hunter, Private, Capt. Claud Barry's Co. (Onslow Rough and Readys), 35th Regiment North Carolina Infantry (State Troops),* enlisted September 6, 1861 at Jacksonville by Claud Barry for one year, appointed 2nd Corporal December 1, 1861, re-enlisted ca June 16,1862, received $50, admitted Chimborazo Hospital, Richmond, Va. December 6, 1862, Continued Fever, returned to duty December 15, appointed Sergeant, n. d., receipted for an issue of clothing March 26, 1864, description on enlistment: born at Onslow, N. C, age 17, Farmer, 5' 5", no other records

* This company subsequently became Company A, 35th North Carolina Infantry (State Troops)

It appears that he may have been dropped from the rolls prior to November, 1864 as the next surviving muster roll for the company subsequent to the March/April, 1862 muster was that for the bi-monthly period Nov./Dec., 1864 at Petersburg. He was not recorded. He could have been dropped by reason of death, discharge, capture, desertion, etc.
