The school he attended in 1850 was the famous Episcopal High School in Alexandria, VA.
His father, Marine Lt. Col. James Noble Edelen (1792-1869), had his name mis-spelled Edelin when he joined the Marines, and went by that spelling afterwards.
The big question: where was he 1861-63? Did he sit it out until his father retired? Was he ill?
