Adolphus D. Ruyyan, Private, Company D (Cleveland Farmers), 55th Regiment North Carolina Infantry (State Troops), enlisted March 26, 1862 at Shelby, Cleveland, N. C. by Captain S. D. Randall for the war, receipted for extra duty pay of 40 cts./day as a Blacksmith for the months of May, June, July & August 1863, admitted General Hospital Camp Winder, Richmond, Va., December 19, 1864, furloughed January 28, 1865, destination Cherryville, N. C., description on enlistment, 32 year old Mechanic, born in Cleveland, ND, 5’ 7”, signed Oath of allegiance to State of North Carolina with an ‘X’, “his mark”, no further records

Note, the Company D muster roll for the period Sep/Oct, 1864 is the last surviving roll which precludes our knowledge of his last few months of service
