Daniel Powers Whiting was my great, great, grandfather. His book, A Soldiers Life - Daniel P Whiting, was created from his original journal. West Point, Class of 1832 through 1863 when he was forced to retire due to major physical infirmities. Great reading if you're interested in real Army life during that time.
Lt Col Thomas Boyd Edelin was married to DP Whiting's daughter, Isabella Lee Whiting, my great grandfathers sister.
A Whiting family genealogy project recently found both Thomas and Isabella buried at Congressional Cemetery in Washington, DC. Asked the cemetery archivist for a picture of their headstone, she replied they didn't have one.
With the help of the Department of Veteran's Affairs - Memorial Programs Service and Congressional Cemetery, a Civil War era headstone is being created for Lt Colonel Thomas Boyd Edelin, with a separate marker for his wife, Isabella. Contacted the Sons of Confederate Veterans main office, at this time, they will have a color guard (of some sort) at Congressional when his headstone is placed. Mid to late October, 2015 is the estimate.
