Matt - some of the later volumes are superb. The one on Thomas's Legion is first rate. At the same time, several of us are working on more in-depth North Carolina Regimental histories. I've personally written ones on the 37th Regiment and the 58th Regiment, and upcoming history of the Branch-Lane brigade. There are also histories of the 2nd NC Cavalry, 4th NC Cavalry, 6th NC Troops, 11th NC Troops, 18th NCT Troops, 21st NC Troops, 25th NCT Troops, 28th NCT Troops, and 55th NCT. McFarland and Company Publishers is the publisher of mostl of these. They are all modern, i.e., not written by the veterans themselves.
