The North Carolina in the Civil War Message Board

New Civil War Podcast

If you're interested in a fresh perspective on the Civil War, my firm recently partnered with a local Civil War expert to produce a podcast called Threads From The National Tapestry. It's in a narrative format, which makes for a compelling podcast. Here's a link: http://tapestrypodcast.com/

A little about the host:

Fred Kiger is an American Civil War expert and popular lecturer for the University of North Carolina General Alumni Association and leads field study programs to Civil War sites. He twice served as a co-lecturer with Shelby Foote, the distinguished American historian and novelist. Kiger created the Fandex Field Guide The Civil War: A History of the War between the States for Workman Publishing which is in its 9th printing. A member of Cambridge’s Who’s Who for Higher Education, he has lectured on the American Civil War for the last 37 years.

He is a native North Carolinian, holds two degrees from UNC-CH and previously taught for 20 years with the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools. In addition to his Civil War lecturing and battlefield tours, Freddie is an writer, researcher, statistician and associate producer for several broadcasting companies, most notably ESPN, where he is a three-time Emmy award for his contributions to the series Sports Century.
