I, too, think this is Thomas Boyd Edelin. There is a great deal about that person in the book: A Soldier's Life, by Daniel P. Whiting which is the journal of that man who was a professional soldier. Daniel P. Whiting's daughter Isabella married Thomas B. Edelin. At the time, (pg. 192), it states that around July 3, 1863 Edelin joined the Confederate Army and was commissioned as a Colonel in the North Carolina cavalry. Whiting states Edelin fought at Gettysberg, and owned a farm in Piscataway, Maryland. You may consider reading this book if it's of interest, and if you believe that Thomas B. Edelin is the same person as J.B. Endelin.
