Have you consulted Vols 17 and 18 of North Carolina Troops 1861-1865 which cover the Junior and Senior Reserves? They contain interesting comments on Moore's and Clark's works and, by implication, Manarin's.
Still looking for Home Guard info as NCT Vol 21 yet to be published!
