55th North Carolina

In recent studies for my book about the 55th NC I noticed that there were limited references to this unit's contributions in battles, especially Gettysburg, being that three members are known to have advanced to the Bryan barn, farther than Pickett's Virginians. Also during the Wilderness Davis's brigade, the brigade the 55th belonged to and at the time under the command of John Stone, fought and held off repeated Federal attacks, almost to the point that had they not been relieved Col. Belo was about to order a bayonet charge. Granted the "Lost Cause" writers, mainly Virginians, placed their states contributions above others, but what else do you think accounts for this oversight of NC troops, because I know its not only the 55th that has been ignored.
