On July 1, 1863, the 45th North Carolina Regiment was part of Brig. Gen. Junius Daniel's Brigade of Maj. Gen. Robert Rodes' Division. Daniel's Brigade did some hard fighting on that corner of the battlefield, clearing Federal troops out of the woods and fields northeast of Gettysburg.
