Re: 1st NC Infantry at Fredericksberg 1861

Thank you for this information. My great-grandmother's oldest brother, Jacob Douthard Payne died on Dec. 31, 1861 from wounds he received at Fredericksburg. From famly info, he was supposed to be in the 1st North Carolina Infantry, B Company. He was born June 20, 1841 in Morganton, Burke Co., North Carolina, so he was age 20 when he died. Do you have any record of Jacob belonging to the 1st NC Infantry, Co. B? Am I correct in understanding that this was a sharpshooter company? After the Civil War, his parents (and 8 siblings) sold their farm and went by covered wagon to the Indian Territory. His name was carried on in the family through the next 2 generations. I am now trying to find out anything I can about Jacob. Anything you can tell me is greatly appreciated. Thanks. Barbara Estabrook
