The 2nd N. C. BN had two companies which were actually raised in Georgia, and which were assigned to the N. C. unit. Companies D and E were raised from Meriwether County, Ga. Company D remained with the 2 N. C. BN until transferred to 21 GA, where it became Company E of that unit, on 11 Apr 64. Company E was transferred to the 60 Ga on 11 Apr 62 (or possibly May 62). I have no idea why these two Georgia companies were assigned to the otherwise all-Tar Heel Battalion. It appears to be coincidence that the two companies were transferred out two years apart. I have the burial sites for about twenty of the men, but they have no apparent N. C. connection except their assignement to the 2 N. C. BN. If anyone wants me to post the burials, I will do so.
