Barnett Griffey was from Wilkes, North Carolina.
He joined in the Civil War, and was captured near Washington DC in 1864 and sent to Old Capitol Prison.
In July of 1864 he was transferred to Elmira Prison in New York.
On 20 February 1865 he was sent to James River in Richmond, Virginia for prisoner exchange. He got sick with some kind of ailment while there and was sent to Receiving and Wayside Hospital (also known as General Hospital # 9). He apparently died there around 7 March 1865.
