Re: Lincoln's War: What were the Options?

Why was the Charleston Arsenal surrendered to the South Carolina Militia in December,1860? It was undermanned and under an attack of sorts but one wonders if the US already was looking for another point to push itself into war. I have a small theory on the Arsenal thing but am wondering how it may have impacted the Sumter action.
