What a wonderful command of the English language these accounts have. I'm not doubting that many a slave had a vocabulary that could put some owners to shame but it makes one wonder, who is doing the wording? In some of the CCC project transcriptions from former slaves, the wonderful local flavor and twang was left in the transcribing. In my opinion these were the best descriptions on their life.
