You are kidding right?
We just went through a discussion on the black codes in the North, the underground railroad and the reasons it went to Canada. The slaves were the ones the whites left home to take care of their families when they left to go to war. Again I offer this thought-- If slavery was an issue of war, perhaps the north was fighting not to free the slaves but to keep the slave(black) out of their lands. Sorta' changes the perspective doesn't it?
