Re: What if you were Major Anderson?

In one of the bio's it said Anderson was from a slave holding family and had owned some himself. He was selected for the Charleston 'job' because it was believed he would, for lack of a better phrase at the moment, 'fit in' with the locals because of it. If one were to look for a person to do an 'undercover' job, they'd want a person who could 'fit in'. We know many of the officers on both sides had earlier connections due to places they were stationed, the Mexican War or the Point. If there were some who did suspect a deliberate action against their home state or who at least knew there was the possibility of orders coming from above that were contradicting Buchanan's stand, it makes sense that they'd think twice about staying and going against their own people. These men knew more of the true character of those involved than we do because they were around them. Those who were close to Scott would have knowledge of his capability in deception. It must have given him heartburn when Lee went South. I hope so.
The Sumter affair looks on the surface like it was a real firefight, but in my opinion, it could well have been staged. More damage should have occurred if either side had really tried.
Lincoln, Scott, Anderson-----???? Something to think about for sure.
