That was part of my job as a Park Ranger, people dumped dogs out there all the time and I had to shoot the poor starving things, I hated it. I'd tell people how sorry a shot I was and that I might wound the dog first which resulted in having to hunt the injured suffering dog for days, just so they might adopt it,,,LOL

Actually it was always a quick sudden put down, but they didn't know that.
