I'm thinking that Abner had some issues with the truth. He certainly is not a loyal officer (he even testified against General Meade and his conduct at Gettysburg) and his political ties would have been frowned upon. He claimed to be the only man in Fort Sumter to have voted for Lincoln and HE called himself "The Hero of Fort Sumter". I need to look at his history more carefully, I smell a rat.
