If I were a detective for a show like "Histories Mystery" I would be wondering why Lincoln would be interested in Doubledays correspondence. One would automatically presume that it was for the purpose of covering something up.

I am assuming that the date of Lincoln visit to Mrs Doubleday is April 10th, 1861. Why didn't he ask Abner D. personally for the correspondence? Was he afraid that Abner wouldn't give them to him? For What purpose did he need those letters? His Personal archives? I doubt it.

Or was old Abner just making the story up after the fact. There is no honor among thieves.
