The Creek Nation was one of the 'Civilized' tribes. I'm not sure where but I believe I read they were called that because they were more interactive with the new folks in their neighborhood. The Cherokee did have some pretty smart people and adapted to many of the white ways easily. The Creeks were not quite as friendly at first. Took them a while and all found there was something they needed or wanted from the whites to make these attempts at friendship. The Creeks had a nice fur trade going for a while. Each area of the country had it's indiginous Natives and while they had their own wars with each other all tribes had individual governments and all of the little intrigues that go with them.
One wonders what they thought when they were all lumped onto the Creek Roll. Some information was recently passed on to me by a newfound possible cousin of sorts that the Cherokee Grandfather of mine who is listed on the Creek roll may have been a Euchee. Hubbys grandmother is listed as Creek but was really Natchez. Talk about assimilation. There were many who just dwindled down and had to integrate with other tribes. The large picture can boggle the mind. Hubby's branch of Creeks/Natchez fought Andy Jackson, but they were in Alabama units in the War of Northern Agrivation. It didn't take too many generations for them to become just like any other person. It's those who were in the Removal that suffered the worst form of discrimination.
