There is alot of debate as to whether NBF was one of the original founders, but according to the Tennessee Encyclopedia of History and Culture, he became the Klan's first elected grand wizard in 1867. He might not have founded it, but he certainly was deeply involved in it. I admire NBF as well as the next Southern person, but lets face it, he wasn't perfect.
The net is a perfectly good resource for finding facts, but like any other source, can sometimes have misinformation.
Also now we know why we didn't fare better in the Civil War, Tennesssee supplied more men to the Union side than 9 of their own states, now we know why it is called the "Volunteer State".
