My wife's gg-grandfather and one of his brothers joined the 4th Cav. U.S. Later, another deserted the 33rd AR and joined the 4th Cav. The other three were enlisted in the 33rd and 37th AR(2 deserted along with the traitor). They were from Clark County, central AR and I recall that Bryan Howerton cautioned me not to judge them. He said there was a lot of resentment over conscription and the harsh treatment of the home guard on many families that made some men want to enlist in the Union army.
Just the same, glad they weren't my ancestors and I don't have permission to name them either.
