Now back to my Arkansas statement. The people of Arkansas saw no difference between Traitor and Loyalist. There were no ifs, no buts, you were either a Confederate or you were a traitor. They didn't define traitor, they just shot what they thought was a traitor. Most of the shooters were called Bushwhackers according to my Great Grandmother.
We agree on judging 19th century actions and morals. We must veiw those actions and morals as closely as they did, not by our morals and actions.
