I consider the Confederate soldier to be a part of our American military traditions, but not, obviously, a member of the "American Armed Forces."
The courage, fortitude and sacrifice of the Confederate soldier is a part of our common heritage, something we can all stand in awe of, and take pride in. We can do that without necessarily endorsing the cause for which they fought. We can (and probably will) debate the Cause till the cows come home, but there should be no debate about the honor of the soldiers themselves.
